Jeb’s New Bet: The #Selfie Strategy

The Financial Times reports that Jeb Bush is starting to come out of his shell and appear more comfortable on the campaign trail. Part of that is his selfie strategy.

“All these selfies people take — they’re fantastic,” said Rich Killion, Mr Bush’s campaign strategist for the state. “They’re going to email it around to their friends and they’re going to say — let me tell you what I talked to Jeb Bush about last night. “They’ve seen him over so many months and they see him over and over again and at the end of the day they’ll see Jeb as the person most ready to be president on day one,” Mr Killion declared.

Selfies are definitely conversation starters. When people post selfies with candidates, their friends often ask what they discussed with the candidate. However, it’s unclear how selfies help people see Jeb as the person most prepared to be president, even if it does help increase his likability.

As part of coming out of his shell, Jeb is also handing out tiny turtle figurines to children.

“It’s a symbol of something,” Mr Bush said describing what appears to be his new campaign mantra. “Slow and steady wins the race. Remember the turtle and the hare?” he added, presumably referring to the Aesop fable The Tortoise and the Hare.
