Texas Sen. Ted Cruz mocked President Obama on Tuesday for opposing photo ID requirements for voters, but requiring one for actress Ellen DeGeneres before she entered the White House.
DeGeneres was temporarily prevented from getting inside the White House to receive the Medal of Freedom from Obama because she didn’t have her photo ID with her.
“I thought Obama didn’t believe in photo ID?” the 2016 Republican presidential candidate tweeted Tuesday afternoon, showing a tweet of DeGeneres sitting on a bench outside.

Earlier this year, Cruz filed an amicus brief in support of a Texas Senate bill that would have required Texas voters to present a government-issued photo ID before voting. The bill was passed before it was struck down by the 5th Circuit of Appeals as a violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
