Former White House strategist Steve Bannon predicted Republicans would lose their majority in the House if the midterm elections were held today instead of November.
“I think if they were held today, we’d have a tough time holding the House. I really do,” he said Friday on MSNBC. “I think it could be north of 25, maybe 30 seats, maybe north of that.”
Democrats need to gain 23 seats in the upcoming elections to retake the House majority.
Bannon, however, is hopeful that Republicans can turn around their odds by Nov. 6. He’s launched an outside political group, Citizens of the American Republic, that frames the midterm elections as a referendum on President Trump.
“This is an up or down vote on President Trump,” he said Friday. “This election is going to come as a referendum on him.”
As part of his campaign to re-elect Trump, Bannon is releasing a documentary, “Trump @ War,” in September that portrays Trump voters as being under siege by liberals. The release date is set for Sept. 9, the second anniversary of Hillary Clinton calling Trump supporters “deplorables.”
