Sen. Bernie Sanders doesn’t think President Trump is marching the country toward war with North Korea, even after Trump predicted that a “major, major conflict” with Kim Jong Un’s regime is possible.
On CBS Friday, the Vermont independent said Trump is instead doing the right thing by working with China to twist the screws on Kim.

“No,” Sanders said when asked if Trump was leading the country to war. “This is a very complicated and difficult issue. North Korea is an isolated, dangerous country that has nuclear weapons, working on a missile system.”
Sanders said on CNN, “China is, in fact, the key. People have been working on China for years and if Trump is doing that, he’s doing the right thing.”
Sanders did say he’s worried Trump’s comments about a conflict with North Korea imply that a nuclear war would be on the cards if Kim’s regime pushed too far.
“When you’re talking about a major, major conflict, what you’re talking about is a nuclear war,” Sanders told CBS.
“I think the goal now is to work as strongly as we can with China,” he said. “China receives I think about 80 percent of the exports from North Korea, they are in a position to tighten the screws on North Korea and tell them they cannot continue their weapons or their missile program.”
