The president has returned from Florida and is back in form, warning against the imposition of the drastic spending cuts called for by what is known as the “sequester.”
Speaking at the White House, surrounded by firefighters and other emergency personnel, Obama said the automatic cuts, known as the sequester “… won’t help the economy. It won’t create jobs. It will visit hardship on a whole lot of people,” the president said. The cuts, he added, will “add hundreds of thousands of Americans to the unemployment rolls.”
The spending cuts will amount to about 3 percent of the federal budget and this, of course, means that firefighters and teachers will be the first to be laid off.
