Katie Hill is ready to cash in on a new book deal after a scandal quickly ended her career in Congress.
“Being out of office is so much easier than being in office,” she said in an interview Monday with New York Magazine. “This year, I’m going to make a lot more money. I’m going to have a bunch of vacations. I’m going to have a lot of downtime.”
The money is coming from an advance the former congresswoman is getting for a memoir titled She Will Rise, which will include her battle plan for gender equity. Hill is also starting a new woman-focused PAC and making paid speaking appearances to talk about women’s empowerment.
Hill, 32, became immersed in controversy after photos published in October showed her naked in a hotel room, brushing the hair of a female staffer, who worked on her 2018 campaign. Additional photos were later published that showed her holding a bong while undressed, and she was further accused of having an affair with a staffer in her congressional office.
The Democrat apologized and admitted she had an affair with the female campaign aide; however, she denied the other affair allegation and resigned days later. She was facing an investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
The California Democrat said in her latest interview that she had tens of thousands of dollars of debt from getting divorced before she started her new life. Hill got her final check from the House in December, but now she is using her book advance to get a one-bedroom apartment, a luxury she says she could not afford on the standard $174,000 annual congressional salary.
