SOUNDBITE: Jennifer Lynch, Public Affairs Officer, Arlington National Cemetary: “I’m excited to be here today with the launch of our new app ANC Explorer. The first version of ANC Explorer allows users to locate gravesites, events and other points of interest throughout the cemetary, view front and back photos of the headstones or monument and receive directions to these locations.”

SOUNDBITE: Major Nicholas R. Miller, Chief Information Officer: “Nothing will replace the experience of walking into the cemetary, but if you’re not afforded that opportunity, technology can enhance that visit. And if you are at the cemetary, getting gravesite directions can be enhanced by the technology.”

SOUNDBITE: Major Nicholas R. Miller, Chief Information Officer: “Across common smart phones, that geo-spacial information will power the experience at Arlington National Cemetary so that you can search your loved one, get gravesite direction and then pull up a marker of their headstone.

SOUNDBITE: Major Nicholas R. Miller, Chief Information Officer: “And you can picture your smart phone as you’re walking in the cemetary with your icon or your arrow depending on what platform you use, taking you to that gravesite. And so the first thing I’ll show you is the directions to the gravesite. Not only can I get directions, I can get an estimated distance.”

SOUNDBITE: Major Nicholas R. Miller, Chief Information Officer: “In addition, if you weren’t fortunate enough to visit, you’re able to not only log into the website, but download a headstone photo.”

SOUNDBITE: Major Nicholas R. Miller, Chief Information Officer: “This is our first rollout of this app. We’re very excited to be the first cemetary to use geo-spacial information system to manage cemetary operations and then also enhance the experience that our guests, our families, and our veterans can receive.”
