FINCASTLE, Va. (AP) — A former Botetourt County school bus driver has been found guilty of improper driving in an accident that left 13 students with minor injuries.
Media outlets report Mary Elizabeth Esque of Eagle Rock was fined $500 on Wednesday. A Botetourt County General District judge reduced the charge from reckless driving.
State police have said Esque was looking at an unruly student in the rear-view mirror when the bus ran off a road and overturned May 23 near Fincastle.
Esque admitted that speed may have been a factor in the accident. The bus was carrying students who attend Central Academy Middle School and James River High School.
County Schools Superintendent Tony Brads says Esque no long drives a bus for the district.
