‘Latinos for Trump’ chant ‘Build the Wall’ and cheer ICE at Pence speech

Vice President Mike Pence kicked off President Trump’s “Latinos for Trump” initiative in Florida to chants of “Build the Wall” by the audience.

The chants came as Pence said Trump and Latino voters both supported law and order.

“Because Latino and Hispanic Americans believe in law and order. And we support our law enforcement,” the vice president said at the Miami event as a “Build the Wall” chant started in the audience.

“This president knows that a nation without borders is not a nation,” Pence said in response, saying the president had taken “decisive” steps to secure the border.

The audience also cheered after Pence said Trump supports the Custom and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies.

Pence called Trump a “great champion of Latino and Hispanic Americans” and said the new group would be pivotal to the 2020 election.

Trump won roughly 29% of the Hispanic vote in 2016. Polling among Hispanic voters about Trump’s approval remains inconclusive, with polls showing his support is anywhere from the mid-20s to 50%.

Pence in his speech repeated Trump’s messaging that Hispanics should support the ticket’s 2020 bid because what he has done to improve the economy.

“President Donald Trump is the best friend that Latino and Hispanic businesses have ever had in the White House,” Pence said.
