The Virginia General Assembly will return in April to re-draw lines for the state’s House, Senate, and (in theory) U.S. Congressional seats based on 2010 data from the U.S. Census bureau. And Gov. Bob McDonnell’s bipartisan redistricting commission wants to hear from Virginia residents about the often-contentious process.
The commission will present its recommendations – which the General Assembly can accept or reject – on April 1. In the meantime, it has released a schedule of public forums where interested citizens can provide input on the process. It will also review new district maps presented by student teams as part of a college competition.
The forum schedule is as follows:
March 11 2 p.m. Richmond area The Capitol, House Room 1
March 14 7 p.m. Roanoke area Virginia Western Community College
March 15 7 p.m. Northern Virginia George Mason University
March 21 7 p.m. Hampton Roads Norfolk State University
