The City of Falls Church concedes that it owes Arlington County $2.2 million for a shared detention center, but did not immediately agree to repay that amount, according to city officials.
City Manager James Shields said that the bill, which corrects errors stemming from the city’s payments for shared used of the Arlington County Detention Facility, will be accounted for in the next fiscal budget, the Falls Church News-Press reported.
However, the actual amount the city would pay Arlington is still being debated, officials said.
“City of Falls Church staff is still discussing the prison costs with Arlington County staff and the numbers have not been finalized,” said city spokeswoman Barbara Gordon.
Arlington analysts had discovered an error in the figures the county used to determine Falls Church’s contribution to the jail, dating back to 2007. The bill would correct the resulting errors in the city’s payment.
