Effort to kill superdelegates heads to DNC floor

Sen. Bernie Sanders and his supporters in the Democratic National Convention’s rules committee were unsuccessful Saturday in a fight to pass an amendment that would put a stop to the Democrats’ practice of allowing unelected superdelegates a vote at conventions.

By a vote of 58 to 108, an amendment by Rhode Island state Rep. Aaron Regunberg was dealt a loss.

But the fight for Sanders’ supporters has only begun. Those aligned with the socialist Democrat secured enough votes to surpass the 25 percent support needed for a minority report that will call up the proposal again on the convention floor next week.
