Republican Congressional candidates should accept the reality of a Hillary Clinton presidency and run on keeping her in check, Weekly Standard chief Bill Kristol said Wednesday evening.

“My recommendation to GOP Senate and House candidates: Need to start saying NOW that Hillary will be president, need them to check & balance,” Kristol said in a message on Twitter, following the third presidential debate.
The comment came after a series of tweets in which Kristol denounced Donald Trump’s assertions about the possibility of voter fraud and refusal to express confidence in the results of the November election. “I deplore what Trump said and refused to say about accepting the election results. Confirms one’s judgment he shouldn’t be president.
“The right thing to say to Donald Trump now is, Fine, you can go jump in a lake on election night instead of graciously conceding,” he added. “But we Americans will accept the judgment of our fellow citizens, as we always have. And we won’t let you—a fluke and losing nominee … cast any kind of doubt or pall of illegitimacy over this presidential election.”

Asked by moderator Chris Wallace at Wednesday’s presidential debate whether he would accept the results of the election, Trump responded, “I will tell you at the time. I will keep you in suspense, okay?”
Kristol said later on Twitter, “What should happen: Tomorrow morning [House Speaker Paul Ryan] & [Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell] repudiate Trump, make case for GOP Congress to check & balance Clinton.”
