Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump saw yet another poll in a battleground move in his direction Thursday as he led Hillary Clinton in Ohio.
According to a new Suffolk University poll of likely voters, Trump tops Clinton by a 3-point margin, leading with 42 percent support to Clinton’s 39 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson pulls 4 percent support, while 12 percent are undecided.
This is the third straight poll to show Trump leading the former secretary of state, each with the Republican leading by at least 3 points. It comes in the wake a poor stretch for Clinton, who has seen her poll numbers fall nationally and in battleground states. Over the past week, Clinton has been under fire for saying that half of Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables” and recuperating from pneumonia after a medical episode on Sunday while attending a memorial service commemorating the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Trump leads Clinton in Ohio by less than a point in the latest RealClearPolitics average with just 54 days until election day.
Additionally, Sen. Rob Portman kept up his lead over former Gov. Ted Strickland in his bid for re-election, leading with 39 percent backing to Strickland’s 31 percent, an 8-point margin.
According to the latest RCP average, the Ohio Republican has blown the race wide open, leading by more than 14 points over Strickland.
