?Mona Lisa? ? now for couch potatoes

Art lovers with HDTV can see the world?s masterpieces from their couches.

In November, Comcast launched GalleryPlayer, a service that allows On Demand subscribers to select themed collections of art and photography to appear on their TV screens.

Themed image collections in the upcoming months include the Art of Leonardo da Vinci, Art of Claude Monet, Angels in Art and highlights from the Museum of Modern Art. Images change every minute and are accompanied by synchronized music.

Paintings and photographs available on Gallery Player come from 45 publishers, artists, photographers and museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Museum of Modern Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Other images were provided by the Seattle Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and National Geographic.

“GalleryPlayer gives us the opportunity to share remarkable National Geographic images with the public and provides a new and exciting venue for the talented photographers we work with to showcase their work,” said Maura Mulvihill, vice president of Image Collection for National Geographic.

In the first three months of programming, Comcast high-definition customers viewed GalleryPlayer programs an average of 7,000 times a month, according to Comcast spokeswoman Anna Custer.
