Kasich won’t launch third-party run for president

Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Monday that he won’t launch a third-party bid for the presidency.

The governor told CNN that after failing in the GOP presidential primary, it did not feel right to try and win as an independent candidate. He also confirmed he had received a phone call urging him to jump back into the presidential race, though he didn’t say who called.

“I just think running third party doesn’t feel right. I think it’s not constructive,” Kasich said in an interview with CNN. “A third-party candidacy would be viewed as kind of a silly thing, and I don’t think it’s appropriate. I just don’t think it would be the right thing to do.”

Kasich has remained largely silent since dropping out of the 2016 race after the Indiana primary. His interview with CNN will air on Monday night.
