Trey Gowdy jokingly lobbed the “treason” word at actress Alyssa Milano.
During a Fox News interview Thursday evening, the former Republican congressman was asked to respond to a tweet Milano sent that was critical of President Trump saying he would accept opposition research from a foreign government.
“Well, that’s it. If we accept this as our norm … the nation will never recover,” the actress and left-wing political activist said in a tweet with a video of Trump’s remark from an ABC interview.

Gowdy smirked and asked, “Is this the same actress that launched a sex strike a couple weeks ago?”
Indeed Milano did call on women to withhold sex from men after states, including Georgia, enacted strict abortion laws, which host Martha MacCallum affirmed to Gowdy.
“We are — speaking of treason,” Gowdy quipped. “I do know this. We have a robust, strong country. We are able to withstand lots of things, including her acting, and a president for whom we may disagree with on the issues,” Gowdy responded. “I didn’t agree with President Obama, but I did not think it was an existential threat to the democracy,”
He added, “No, the hyperbole, I do not think it’s persuasive. She’s entitled to her opinion and I’m entitled to categorically reject it and not paying attention to it.”
Milano has been a vocal critic of the president and Republican policies in the Trump era. The #MeToo activist also fought against the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct.
Trump recently accused former FBI Director James Comey, who oversaw the beginning of the counterintelligence investigation into his 2016 campaign, of committing “treason,” a crime that is punishable by death in the U.S. His attorney general, William Barr, said he disagreed with Trump’s “treason” accusation as a legal matter.
