Radiation Therapy Services Inc., a Fort Myers, Fla.-based operator of radiation therapy centers, has acquired a single radiation therapy center in Bel Air for about $6.6 million.

The facility currently offers an intensity modulated radiation therapy program and can be readily upgraded to include image-guided radiation therapy.

The company said it plans to combine the newly acquired facility with its existing practice in nearby Belcamp, which does not have a modulated radiation program. The combined facility will treat more than 30 patients per day and utilize the company?s current physicians, as the acquired facility?s radiation oncologist has left the local market.

“We are pleased to broaden our presence in the Central Maryland local market with the addition of this practice,” company president and CEO Dr. Daniel Dosoretz said in a statement. “Its current IMRT capabilities and location in close proximity to our existing Belcamp practice makes this an ideal fit for our operating model.”

The company expects the incremental revenue opportunity for the acquisition and the availability of modulated radiation to patients at the Belcamp facility to be about $4 million on an annual basis.
