Neither the famous Pennsylvania groundhog nor Staten Island Chuck, who hails from New York, saw their shadows, according to the Associated Press. Neither did their New Jersey neighbor, Essex Ed, a resident of the Turtle Back Zoo.

According to legend, if a groundhog sees its shadow on Feb. 2, six more weeks of wintry weather are ahead.
Other groundhogs across the country joined in with their own predictions. In Milwaukee, Gordy the Groundhog agreed with his East Coast counterparts that spring will arrive sooner rather than later, Fox 6 reported. It was the first prediction for the 10-month-old groundhog, a resident of the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Ohio’s Buckeye Chuck also didn’t see much Saturday morning, officially predicting an early spring there, too.
So too did Jimmy, the official four-legged prognosticator in Sun Prairie, Wis., who predicted an early spring.
That’s likely welcome news for many, as the Midwest coped this week with record-low temperatures brought on by a polar vortex. The weather phenomenon saw Arctic air trapped over the region and temperatures well below zero in multiple states.
But there was at least one groundhog who didn’t have good news for those enduring unusual cold. At the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Chuck didn’t offer a fair forecast. More winter is in on the way, he predicted.
