News media network CNN is anticipating laying off its workforce in early December.
Its new CEO, Chris Licht, confirmed the layoffs in a town hall meeting with staff moderated by CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota, per Business Insider. While Licht previously promised earlier this year that there would not be any layoffs, he said he was going off of what was known at the time.
Those who will be laid off will receive anywhere from a 60- to 90-day notice.
TRUMP CALLS ON CNN TO CREATE CONSERVATIVE NETWORK ONLY FEATURING HIM

This comes after a number of anchors have left voluntarily and otherwise under the new ownership this year. White House correspondent John Harwood left in September after two years in the position. Host Brian Stelter had his program canceled after he’d been with the network since 2013. Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin left after 20 years, anchor Christi Paul left after a similar length of time, and host Chris Cuomo was fired by the network for his involvement in his brother’s scandal of sexual harassment allegations.
Some 20 staffers were laid off in September from one of the network’s programs that was once featured on CNN+.

The network recently switched up its election night anchors for the first time in 18 years, replacing Wolf Blitzer with Jake Tapper. The network has seen decreasing election night ratings since 2016, when it hit a then-record of 13.3 million viewers. Fox News would go on to beat that record in 2020, with almost 14 million viewers. CNN came in second that year, with 9.1 million viewers, but it quickly recovered the following Saturday, gaining the top spot.
