Democratic lawmaker agrees with John Lewis, says Trump presidency isn’t legitimate

Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler agreed with Rep. John Lewis’ assessment that President-elect Trump is not a legitimate president due to Russian interference in the election.

“The president-elect, while legally elected, is not legitimate,” Nadler, D-N.Y., said on CNN Monday.

Lewis said he doesn’t view Trump as a legitimate president during an interview on NBC last week, and that comment sent the president-elect into a Twitter uproar. Trump spent much of the next day attacking the Georgia Democrat, calling him “all talk, talk, talk.”

Lewis is not going to the inauguration because of his issues with Trump, and Nadler is among the many Democrats who have decided not to attend as well.

“I cannot go because of the president-elect’s inflammatory comments, his racist campaign, his conflicts of interest and his refusal to release his taxes,” Nadler said. “And, the last straw, his ad hominem attacks … on John Lewis.”

Nadler said Republicans have a right to be upset about Lewis’ comment that Trump is illegitimate, even if Nadler agrees with the civil rights icon.

“They’re entitled to be upset at what John Lewis said if they wanna be, they’re entitled to agree with him as I do, and the president-elect is entitled to respond,” he said.
