A new Rasmussen survey shows President Barack Obama is statistically tied with Rick Perry in a hypothetical 2012 matchup. Perry leads Obama in the survey of 1000 likely voters 44 percent to 41 percent, a first for Perry in the Rasmussen polls, but the 3-point margin of error means the president and the Republican governor of Texas are essentially tied.
Rasmussen also found that Obama leads former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney 43 percent to 39 percent, which the report notes is an improvement for Romney. Obama also leads Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann by 8 points, 46 percent to 38 percent. Interestingly, the poll found that a “generic Republican” beats Obama in the national poll 48 percent to 40 percent.
