A 3-year-old was killed after being dragged more than half a mile by a truck in a hit-and-run accident in Towson Friday afternoon, Baltimore County police said.

The child?s grandmother, who police said is likely in her 60s, was pushing the child in a carriage across Goucher Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m. A red truck struck both of them, catching the boy?s carriage underneath and knocking his grandmother to the ground, said Cpl. Michael Hill, a spokesman for the Baltimore County Police.

The truck dragged the carriage from the intersection of Goucher Boulevard and Colbury Road to the 1500 block of Regester Avenue, Hill said.

The driver, an adult female, fled the scene. Police located her truck after talking to witnesses and arrested the woman on the 500th block of Castle Drive, Hill said. Charges against her are pending.

The child was taken to Good Samaritan hospital and pronounced dead shortly after the accident. His grandmother was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries. Her condition was unavailable at press time.

Hill said it was unclear whether the grandmother used the crosswalk on the street.
