The Peabody Trio — Violaine Melancon on violin, Natasha Brofsky on violoncello and Seth Knopp on piano — will perform Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio on Wednesday.
Beethoven’s “Piano Trio No. 7 in B-flat major, Op. 97” is known as the “Archduke” Trio because it was dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, one of Beethoven’s composition students. Completed in 1811, it was first performed publicly in 1814.
Joining the trio is Peabody faculty artist William Sharp, who will perform Robert Schumann’s “Liederkreis, Op. 39,” and faculty artist and violist Maria Lambros, who will perform Schumann’s “Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 47.”
Schumann’s “Liederkreis” was written in 1840 and includes 12 songs set to texts about nature and human longing by Joseph von Eichendorff, the greatest German lyric poet of the Romantic period. “Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major” was completed during Schumann’s “chamber music year” of 1842.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. in the Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall at the Peabody Institute, 17 E. Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore. Tickets are $5 to $15. For more information, visit www.peabody.jhu.edu.
