Two illegal immigrant men have been arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl on multiple occasions in Maryland.
At least one of the accused men faced an “order of removal” from Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2016, and it remains unclear why or how he remained in the country.
The men, who were apparently friends of the girl’s older brother, are Mauricio Barrera-Navidad, 29, and Carlos Palacios-Amaya, 28. They have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of raping the middle schooler.
The girl allegedly told the story of her abuse to a school official, describing multiple instances of rape committed by both men. The girl said that Barrera-Navidad, originally from El Salvador, raped her several times and encouraged her to stay home from school so that he would be able to have unfettered access to her while her parents worked. Barrara-Navidad reputedly filmed himself having sex with the girl. Law enforcement confirmed that they found several images on his cellphone of the two together. Barrara-Navidad, the father of four, was charged with one count of rape and will remain incarcerated until his trial date.
Less information was immediately available about Palacios-Amaya, but he is reportedly being charged with four counts of rape related to the incidents described by the girl. His bond was denied by a Montgomery County judge, and he will remain jailed until trial.
ICE confirmed that both suspects were living in the country illegally at the time of the alleged incidents and at the time of their arrests. They also confirmed that Palacios-Amaya had been removed from the U.S. in 2014 and was known to them as a “repeat immigration violator.” They were not sure when he last entered the country.

UPDATE: According to ICE, both suspects in this child rape case are living in the U.S. illegally.
Palacios-Amaya was removed from the U.S. in 2014 and re-entered on an unknown date.
Barrera-Navidad received a “final order of removal” in 2016.
