Wasserman Schultz trolls GOP leaders by offering help

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz goaded Republican leaders Tuesday night offering her political expertise as a liberal in case House Speaker Paul Ryan needed help rounding up delegates to support the party’s nominee.

Wasserman Schultz pitched Ryan and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on hiring her to help keep the peace at the convention after a heated floor session Monday afternoon.

“Hey @Reince – I’m in Cleveland if you need another chair to help keep your convention in order. #RNCinCLE,” the congresswoman tweeted late Tuesday.

The Florida Democrat followed up an hour later with a reminder she was ready to offer her services to the GOP, obviously a joke not to be taken seriously.

But the offer may be an ironic one. In February, DNC Vice Chair Tulsi Gabbard resigned from her position due to a conflict of interest since she supported Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, but the party had not-so-subtly thrown its support behind Hillary Clinton. That job has yet to be filled, but Wasserman Schultz apparently was not concerned with her organization’s being one man down.

The Democratic National Convention will take place next week in Philadelphia. The party is expected to nominate former secretary of state, but Sanders has not dropped out of the race, which could produce turbulence for the party during the roll call.
