Rep. Poe cites ‘progress’ in leukemia fight

Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, announced Tuesday that he has responded positively to cancer treatments over the summer break, and will return to Washington on Wednesday to his job in the House of Representatives.

“Fortunately, just eight weeks into treatment, I am feeling like myself again and am confident that I will beat cancer,” Poe said in a statement. “Incredible progress has been made so far thanks to the Good Lord and the world class team of physicians at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.”

Poe announced in mid-July that he was diagnosed with leukemia.

“Tomorrow, I will return to Washington for votes and I hope to be present for as much of the fall session that my treatment schedule will allow,” he said. “The support that I have received during this difficult time has been overwhelming.”

Poe thanked his supporters, said he would continue fighting the disease, and concluded his short statement by saying, “And that’s just the way it is,” his signature sign-off that he’s used on the House floor for years.
