The family of an officer who was shot and killed in St. Louis over the weekend released a heartfelt letter following his death.
Officer Tamarris L. Bohannon, 29, was shot in the head in St. Louis on Saturday when he responded to a call of a barricaded gunman in the city’s south side. He is survived by his wife and three children.
“It is with great sadness we share the loss of Officer Tamarris ‘T’ Bohannon, affectionately known as ‘Bo’ by his squad of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department,” the letter, which was posted to the St. Louis Police Department’s Twitter, stated.

“A three year veteran who was raised and continued to live and raise his family in the City in which he patrolled,” the letter continued. “He is a hero to many but most importantly to his loving wife and three incredible children. The loss of this great man is felt deeply within the St. Louis community and we ask for your prayers and support in the days ahead.”
Bohannon was with the department for more than three years and is the first officer in the city to die in the line of duty since 2011.
Local officials poured out support for Bohannon’s family, with the St. Louis mayor urging people to pray for him and his wife and children.
“Heartbreaking. This is a horrific reminder of the dangers our brave men and women in law enforcement willingly and selflessly face everyday to protect and serve. Please keep this officer, his family and friends, and all of @SLMPD in your prayers. A senseless and terrible tragedy,” St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson tweeted.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we report that our critically injured officer has died,” the St. Louis Police Department said on Twitter. “We cannot express how much we appreciate the hospital staff who continuously treated both officers for their injuries.”
