Guitarist and singer Chuck Berry died Saturday, according to St. Charles County, Mo., police after they responded to a medical emergency call and found him unresponsive and were unable to resuscitate him.
A statement on the police department’s Facebook account said authorities arrived at a local home and “first responders observed an unresponsive man and immediately administered lifesaving techniques. Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m.”
The statement also said that the family of Berry is requesting privacy.
Berry, born in St. Louis, Mo., in 1926, was known as a legendary musician and pioneer the rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm-and-blues genres. He was best known for songs like “Johnny B. Good” and “Maybellene.” Berry was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
