House Democrats from New York have called on Andrew Cuomo to resign as the embattled New York governor is enveloped in multiple scandals.
Rep. Kathleen Rice was the first Democrat in the New York delegation to call for the Democratic governor’s resignation almost two weeks ago.
But on Friday, several more members of New York’s Democratic congressional delegation called on him to step down.
Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Yvette Clarke, Antonio Delgado, Adriano Espaillat, Brian Higgins, Mondaire Jones, Ritchie Torres, Tom Suozzi,
Carolyn Maloney, Grace Meng, Jerry Nadler, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Joseph Morelle, Paul Tonko, Chris Jacobs, and Nydia Velazquez, all released statements calling on the embattled Democratic governor of their state to leave office. So did Sean Patrick Maloney, who is chairman of the House Democrats’ campaign arm.
The calls for his resignation come as New York state lawmakers prepare to launch an impeachment investigation into Cuomo led by Democrats on the Judiciary Committee in the Assembly, as 59 Democrats in the state legislature, around 40% of the party in the state’s upper and lower chamber, called on him to resign immediately in the wake of allegations of inappropriate behavior from six women.

“After two accounts of sexual assault, four accounts of harassment, the Attorney General’s investigation finding the Governor’s admin hid nursing home data from the legislature & public, we agree with the 55+ members of the New York State legislature that the Governor must resign,” Ocasio-Cortez stated.
Nadler, who has served in Congress since 1992, said in his statement: “Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence in the people of New York. Cuomo must resign.”
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who is chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released a statement Friday evening, saying, “Under these extraordinary circumstances the governor must consider if he can effectively lead the state. No one is above the law.”
