Donald Trump’s campaign manager pushed back against the need to make revelations about the Republican presidential nominee’s health Tuesday, arguing that everyone, including Trump, has a right to privacy.
Appearing on MSNBC, Kellyanne Conway made the remark while previewing Trump’s upcoming appearance on the “Dr. Oz Show,” in which he will reveal new information about his health, including a physical he took last week. It also came moments before she attacked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for not disclosing that she had pneumonia on Friday two days before she became “overheated” at a memorial commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
It also came after host Andrea Mitchell asked her if he was examinated by Harold Bornstein, the doctor who declared Trump to be the “healthiest individual ever” to be elected president if he wins.
“That I don’t know,” Conway told the host. “I was not present for his physical.”
When pressed by Mitchell over the doctor’s visit, Conway wondered why medical reporting was even needed thanks to the right to privacy.
“Well, but remember, Andrea. I mean, I’m with Dr. Oz and millions of Americans on this. I don’t know why we need such extensive medical reporting when we all have a right to privacy?” Conway said. “And frankly, I’m also with most of the American people who are very upset that many of them had to change doctors under Obamacare. Why would someone change a doctor when they have been healthy for so long? I think that is being lost in the conversation.”
Conway went on to hit Clinton for her decision not to disclose that she had pneumonia prior to Sunday evening. Since Sunday, Clinton has been off the campaign trail, sending former President Bill Clinton to the west coast for fundraising events in her place.
“The question remains: Why in the world did Hillary Clinton lie to everyone and conceal such an important fact for two days? Saying she was overheated and dehydrated and then of course hours and hours later after her health had become the biggest trending story of the day not the 9/11 fallen. Why wait all those hours?” Conway said. “So I agree with you it’s an important issue. And I think that there’s one candidate in this race who has had recent health challenges.”
