Donald Trump predicted fellow presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will not be indicted by the FBI for using a personal email server while secretary of state.
The New York businessman told Fox News late Wednesday he believes the Democratic Party will protect the front-runner from the federal agency.
“I think the Democratic Party is going to protect her. I don’t think she’s going to be indicted,” Trump told Bill O’Reilly. “I think what she’s done is very, very serious, but I do believe that she’s being protected.”
Trump, a former friend of fellow New Yorkers Bill and Hillary Clinton, mulled over the idea that Democrats may be working behind the scenes to help Clinton avoid an indictment.
“I would like to think they’re not working together,” Trump added.
If nominated and elected to the Oval Office in November, Trump said he would take advantage of the six-year statute of limitations, which would give his administration the ability to look back at Clinton’s time as top diplomat, to “very fairly” see if she had abused any privileges while at State.
In February, the FBI announced it was investigating Clinton’s use of a home-based private email server, a breach of security protocols for cabinet officials.
