FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) — MVB Bank is warning mobile phone users about a texting scam underway throughout north-central West Virginia.
MVB spokeswoman Aly Goodwin Gregg says the text message is sending what claims to be an “MVB Alert” to phones. It tells recipients to reactivate their bank cards by calling a certain number.

MVB says the message is not from the bank, and people should not call the number.
Goodwin Gregg says people who get the text should alert authorities.
She says the bank’s information system hasn’t been compromised, and the problem is for mobile phone providers to address.
Goodwin Gregg also says no legitimate financial institution would ever request personal information through a text message.
