University of Maryland student robbed on campus

A female University of Maryland student was the victim in a robbery-by-force incident on campus, police said.

At about 7:26 p.m. Sunday, the student was walking toward McKeldin Library on McKeldin Mall. She was talking on her cell phone when an unknown suspect grabbed her phone out of her hand and then fled toward the Chincoteague building, University of Maryland police said. The suspect was followed by four male witnesses to the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male about 18-to-20 years old, 5-foot-5, with a thin-to-medium build. According to the victim’s description, the suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with black and green horizontal stripes and dark pants.
