Clinton met with FBI over email probe

Hillary Clinton’s campaign confirmed Saturday that she met with the FBI about her email practices while secretary of state, which has been the subject of an investigation.

The meeting was held at FBI headquarters for three and a half hours.

“Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning about her email arrangements while she was Secretary,” said Clinton traveling press secretary Nick Merrill in a statement. “She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion. Out of respect for the investigative process, she will not comment further on her interview.”

This comes amid widespread criticism of a private meeting between Attorney General Lorretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton, causing Republicans to step up calls for an independent special prosecutor to be appointed in this case. Lynch has since said she will follow the FBI’s recommendations in the case.

Clinton not only used a private email address as secretary of state but a private, homebrew server. Questions have been raised both about transparency and how sensitive, even classified, government information was protected under this arrangement.
