Woman’s face burned during laser face-lift, says doctor argued with boyfriend on phone during procedure

A woman was left with facial burns after a laser face-lift went terribly wrong.

Asli Ilhan, 42, of Antalya, Turkey, said she paid a “high price” for her beautician’s negligence during the procedure, alleging the practitioner argued on the phone with her boyfriend during the treatment.

Ilhan says she could feel a burning sensation during the procedure. When she returned home, she experienced further stinging and discomfort that she described as “awful,” according to a report.

She tried to treat the pain and scarring on her face but was unsuccessful. Permanent marks reportedly spread across her face.

“People sometimes make mistakes, but [on this occasion] I paid a high price,” Ilhan said. “I am facing a bigger problem than saggy skin now. I have a lot of trouble with the marks on my face. I feel awful.”

Ilhan reportedly filed a complaint against the beautician for the alleged negligence. A Turkish court ruled that the owner of the beauty salon will pay Ilhan monetary compensation to the order of $259 over 10 equal installments. Ilhan’s lawyer said the deal was “simply not enough.”

“The court issued a penalty of TRY 3,360, and this penalty will be paid in 10 installments,” her lawyer said. “But we think that the penalty for burning a person’s face in a way that leaves obvious marks is not a judicial fine.”

The settlement is unacceptable, Ilhan said.

“Not only was my face badly burned, but I had a lot of psychological distress during this period as well,” she said. “The pain I’ve suffered in one year will be compensated with a small fine paid over 10 installments. I absolutely do not accept this decision.”
