Taxis will charge flat rates from Gulfport airport

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Airport taxi and other ground-transportation companies will begin following new rules at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1vwj2xb ) the airport’s board set flat rates the companies can charge to 24 specific destinations, including casino resorts, military installations, major shopping centers and the Coast Coliseum.

The new rules take effect Wednesday.

Airport Director Clay Williams said the companies also must take debit or credit cards and have clearance to drop off members of the military inside the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport and Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.

Daniels said the changes, which the board studied for months, are designed to provide consistency in ground transportation.
