HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Members of Congress and transportation officials will be discussing new safety standards for rail transit systems nationwide.
The safety standards are part of bipartisan legislation signed into law by President Barack Obama earlier this month. Officials plan to discuss the standards Monday at a Metro maintenance and training facility in Hyattsville, Md.
Maryland Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin and Maryland representatives Chris Van Hollen and Donna F. Edwards, all Democrats, are expected to attend along with Federal Transit Administration Administrator Peter M. Rogoff and National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah Hersman.
