Monday be will heavy with D.C. government news.
First up at 11 a.m., D.C. Attorney General Irvin Nathan will release the details of his months-long investigation into accusations that Ward 5 Councilman Harry Thomas funnelled campaign dollars through a nonprofit group he set up called “Team Thomas.” Thomas has said he did nothing wrong. The D.C. GOP, which brought the accusations to the attorney general’s attention, says Thomas violated campaign finance and tax laws.
But that’s not all. At 12:30 ,Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh will hold what’s likely to be the last of five hearings into the Gray administration’s hiring decisions. The hearing will feature everyone’s favorite character, Sulaimon Brown.
Most people missed Brown while he was campaigning for mayor last summer. But he has become a household name since he was fired from his Gray administration job. It was then that Brown accused the mayor — and key members of the Gray for Mayor campaign — of promising him a job to stay on the campaign trail and keep up his attacks on then-Mayor Adrian Fenty. Brown aslo claims Gray campaign members passed him cash-stuffed envelopes so he could afford to stay on the campaign. On Sunday, The Washington Post reported some of those envelopes might have held money orders.
