The Simpsons criticized after Homer-meets-Joe-Rogan spoof

The Simpsons is drawing criticism after a recent episode saw Homer meet with a caricatured version of popular podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

In the new episode titled “You Won’t Believe What This Episode is About — Act Three Will Shock You!,” the Simpsons’ patriarch is canceled after leaving the family dog, Santa’s Little Helper, in a hot car, according to a report.

He attempts an apology, but he accidentally bumps Reverend Lovejoy while doing so, causing him to fall from the church window. Homer then loses his job as his actions are plastered all over the internet, the report noted.

At this point, Homer meets with a “Right-Wing Podcast” host who is the spitting image of the 54-year-old Rogan.

Rogan’s name is never explicitly mentioned, but the bald and five-o’clock-shadowed doppelganger, like Rogan, appears to be the only person willing to talk with Homer in the wake of his cancellation.

A critic from Screen Rant called the episode “a self-contradictory mess.”

It was “a spoof that ended up backfiring,” Cathal Gunning wrote.

People like Homer, who are “presumably equally well-meaning, harmless figures,” are not representative of the “canceled” figures Rogan has on his show, Gunning said.
