Coast Guard searches for missing diver in Bahamas

MIAMI (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who went missing during a commercial shark diving venture in the Bahamas.

Coast Guard officials in Miami say 63-year-old John E. Petty went missing Sunday night about 20 nautical miles northwest of West End on Grand Bahama island. Petty’s hometown was not released.

According to the Coast Guard, the captain aboard the commercial dive vessel Shear Water reported to authorities that Petty never resurfaced after shark diving with eight other people.

Bahamian authorities have been joined in the search by Coast Guard air and sea crews.
