Ben Sasse praises Supreme Court for siding against Trump in Texas election lawsuit

Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse decried a Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn the election results in several swing states as a conspiracy theory.

Sasse, known to feud with the president on a variety of issues, decried President Trump’s advocates, who he said have spread conspiracy theories in the aftermath of the election.

“Since Election Night, a lot of people have been confusing voters by spinning Kenyan Birther-type, ‘Chavez rigged the election from the grave’ conspiracy theories, but every American who cares about the rule of law should take comfort that the Supreme Court — including all three of President Trump’s picks — closed the book on the nonsense,” the statement reads.

The lawsuit, spearheaded by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, claimed that Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin unconstitutionally changed how their elections were to be held ahead of the general election. Over 100 House Republicans signed a brief in support of the lawsuit.

However, the Supreme Court on Friday declined to take up the case.

“Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections. All other pending motions are dismissed as moot,” the court’s order reads.

The Supreme Court’s decision on the lawsuit all but ends Trump’s chances at overturning the results of the election in key swing states.
