A West Virginia man who was charged with beating his sister and causing her to fall into a two-year coma died just days after being arrested.
Daniel Palmer was booked into South Central Regional Jail on July 15 after being charged with the attempted murder of his sister Wanda Palmer, who identified her brother as the attacker after waking up from a two-year coma last month. The 55-year-old man was “uncooperative while in custody and during booking procedures at the jail,” officials told NBC.

Authorities transported Daniel Palmer to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital on Wednesday upon the recommendation of jail medical staff who completed an examination, according to police. He was pronounced dead the next day. No further details were given by the police.
Wanda Palmer was found in an “upright position” on her couch at her residence near Cottageville, West Virginia, in June 2020 with severe injuries caused by what appeared to be a hatchet or ax, according to police. A witness reported seeing Palmer’s brother on her porch the night before she was discovered, although he had always denied involvement, according to police.

Though several people were investigated without charges ever being filed, Wanda Palmer’s account to police upon waking from the coma gave officials enough testimony to arrest her brother, police said Friday.
