Utah Governor Herbert Supporting Cruz

Utah governor Gary Herbert endorsed Ted Cruz for president, according to a report from Fox 13 in Salt Lake City. “Herbert confirmed his endorsement for Cruz at a signing for H.B. 27 – a bill that adds an “In God We Trust” license plate as one of the standard options available to Utah residents,” the report says.

Herbert’s endorsement comes the day before Utah’s Republican presidential caucus, and just a few days after the GOP governor campaigned with Cruz’s rival, Ohio governor John Kasich.

The few polls of Utah Republicans shows Cruz, a senator from Texas, with a double-digit lead over Donald Trump, his top rival in the Beehive State. If Cruz can win more than 50 percent of the vote Tuesday, he will receive all of Utah’s 40 delegates to the Republican convention.

Update: A Monday morning Facebook post from Herbert confirms that the governor will vote for Cruz in tomorrow’s caucus.
