Three North Carolina gunshot victims show up to hospital in bullet-ridden car

North Carolina authorities are investigating a shooting that wounded two adults and one child Wednesday morning in northwest Orange County.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Emergency Department a little before 8 a.m., where the victims arrived with gunshot wounds. The vehicle had multiple bullet holes and a smoking engine, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

“Preliminary indications are that the shooting was not a road rage incident and investigators do not believe it was random; therefore, they believe there is no ongoing risk to the community at large,” the sheriff’s office said around noon in an update provided to the media. “Early indications are that the shooting occurred on Industrial Drive, a road that runs parallel to the Interstate 40/85,” and investigators are checking surveillance systems at multiple businesses in the area.

Two of the victims were taken to the emergency room at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment, the sheriff’s office stated, and the third victim “remained at the Hillsborough facility for treatment.” None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening, authorities said.

Authorities identified the vehicle as a four-door sedan that investigators towed away from the hospital and will process for evidence, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

Authorities were not able to provide a photo of the vehicle to the Washington Examiner, as the car was “offsite.”
