Ousted White House chief strategist Steve Bannon had a secret meeting with a senior member of the Communist Party of China official last week, according to a report Thursday.
Bannon flew to Beijing for a meeting with the head of the Chinese Communist party’s anti-corruption campaign, Wang Qishan, an inside source told the Financial Times. The meeting came after Bannon’s visit to Hong Kong where he spoke at an investment bankers conference.
“The Chinese reached out to Bannon before his Hong Kong speech because they wanted to ask him about economic nationalist and populist movements which was the subject of his speech,” another source told the Financial Times.
Notably, Wang gained notoriety after he became the governor of the China Construction Bank.
