Ohio State pays tribute to rock band Rush with halftime performance

The living members of the iconic Canadian prog rock band Rush were “speechless” after they watched a video of the Ohio State University Marching Band performing one of their songs at the school’s Saturday football game, according to comments from members after the game.

The band brought in extra drums to pay tribute to Rush’s late drummer Neil Peart, and the percussion section implemented 20 additional toms and 20 additional cymbals, according to an Ohio State release.

“We’re speechless,” members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson tweeted from the band’s Twitter account, accompanied by three clapping emojis.

The marching band’s percussion group took position at the front and played “The Music of Rush,” including “Tom Sawyer,” “Red Barchetta,” and “Fly by Night,” the school said.

The emblematic guitar parts of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band’s music were replicated by the percussion section, a report said.

The tribute occurred at halftime of the Buckeyes’ home game against the University of Maryland.

The marching band also came together to form “2112” and “YYZ,” another two famous songs of the group, the report said.
