Klobuchar on the white men who lead 2020 Democratic pack: ‘May the best woman win’

Amy Klobuchar said Wednesday in response to a question about a woman’s electability in the 2020 presidential race: “May the best woman win.”

The question was asked of the senator from Minnesota during a Fox News town hall hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

Klobuchar responded to MacCallum’s question alluding to Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg currently leading polls in the 2020 race.

“I think that you have women that have gotten elected all over the country,” Klobuchar said. “Women won all kinds of elections. I also think you discount them at their own peril if you are a Democratic voter because we have some really outstanding women running.”

Six women are running for the Democratic nomination, including Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Tulsi Gabbard, and Marianne Williamson. Warren has edged into third in some polls, with Harris just behind, but Biden currently leads in the RealClearPolitics average with 39%, followed by Sanders on 15.5%.

Women running for the Democratic nomination have faced the question of electability and whether they are capable of taking on President Trump. A poll released last month found that 1 in 8 Americans think men are “better suited emotionally” than women to serve in political positions.
