Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse is open to voting for Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson in November.
Sasse, a stalwart conservative Republican opponent of Donald Trump, opposes his party’s nominee and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Asked about Johnson in an interview with the Lincoln Journal-Star, Sasse said he “hadn’t really looked close at it yet.”
But he added, “The Libertarian Party is something I would certainly consider in the long term.”
Unlike many of his Republican colleagues in both chambers of Congress, Sasse has publicly criticized Trump and clashed with his party’s presumptive nominee. Sasse reportedly told high-school age Nebraskans, “Don’t be so sure the two-party political system continues long-term” when considering their future.
“Both parties are exhausted,” he said, according to the Journal-Star. “They probably don’t have the big ideas for the change that is coming.”
