Update: Wone closing arguments underway

Update 12:00 p.m.:  Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn Kirschner began his closing argument in the Robet Wone conspiracy trial Thursday by emphasizing discrepancies between statements the defendants made.

He said Joseph Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky changed their stories after talking with each other, proving that they colluded to cover up Wone’s Aug. 2, 2006, stabbing death in their Dupont Circle townhouse.

“There are very distinct and dramatic changes,” Kirschner said, pointing their descriptions of the noises they heard and the the placement of the knife.

Kirschner also tried to paint Price as the ringleader in keeping his housemates on message.

The closing arguments bring an end to a trial that has lasted nearly five weeks.

Closing arguments — four and a half hours of them — are about to get underway in the Robert Wone conspiracy trial.

The trial of Joseph Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky has lasted nearly five weeks. D.C. Superior Court Judge Lynn Leibovitz said in court Wednesday that each party would have an hour to make its closing statement. Prosecutors will have an additional half hour for their rebuttal argument.

The defense rested Tuesday. As the trial has neared its end, the courtroom has become increasingly crowded with spectators. An overflow courtroom has been set up to accommodate more people who want to listen to the closing arguments.

Price, Ward and Zaborsky are accused of covering up Wone’s Aug. 2, 2006, stabbing death in their Dupont Circle townhouse.
